Art Of Living Part-I Course (Manpada)

Jai Gurudev to all!

Pradeepji and myself conducted this first Part-1 course for the people from Manpada area in Thane. There were just 10 participants for this course. But these 10 were chosen ones and very fortunate to experience the Sudarshan Kriya.  Each one of them had a unique experience during the kriya.

Nimita, who is a beautician by profession  shared her experience with us. She said, " After doing the kriya, I felt very light as if a big burden of my life was taken off. I just felt like singing, dancing and losing myself in this bliss." Nimita was glowing with energy and enthusiasm.

Says another participant, Unnati, " I used to get angry and irritated with trivial things. Now i feel settled , calm and composed. I don't feel disturbed anymore." Unnati is now inspired to become an Art of Living teacher.

70-year-old granny Kamala came to the course with wobbly knees. Her hands and legs were shaky, but she dared to go through the entire course without any hesitation. Hats off to her! She sang a beautiful bhajan for us and danced too.

As teachers, even we had a good learning experience while organizing and conducting this course. Thanks to Guruji for taking care of our us in every possible way and allowing us to undergo such fulfilling experiences. I pray that we all can reach to many people and spread this knowledge, love and happiness. My heartfelt thanks to all volunteers Maya, Talwarji, Rohit and Shaila who contributed  their bit to accomplish this course.

Green Revolution - Tree Plantation

On an August rainy day, braving the heavy rains ten AOL members decided to take up this seva activity at Lenad village, Bhawale which is about 25 kms from Thane city.

It was really exhilarating experience to do early morning Sadhana in open amidst the sprawling lush green hill and then have homemade delicious breakfast.

This was followed by our Tree Plantation Seva activity. Besides the normal seed sowing and sapling plantation, the Seva work involved post plantation activity like building trenches for water retention, creating support to saplings planted in early monsoon season. Manish Patil, a seasoned campaigner in such activity guided the group. The activity was carried out with patriotic songs “Mere Desh ki Dharti”, “Saathi hath badhana”, etc on lips to keep ourselves motivated and keep the spirits high. Seva lasted for 4-5 hours, following which we returned back to Thane in speeding cars while it was pouring heavily. But in it was like a small picnic and much fun!

Green Revolution - Seed Collection

Art Of Living with the like minded members in the environment has taken the lead in tree plantation around the periphery of Yeoor hills. This is being done with the help and support from Hariyali, a Thane based NGO that espouses environmental concerns. The aim of this initiative was to contribute our bit in upgrading the environment and reducing the global warming in particular.

Shri Punam Singavi, founder and Shri Sahastrabuddhe both of Hariyali guided the participants in this entire exercise at Nature Center and Yeoor Hills and respectively.
The participants got to know –
Well about the terrain, the flora and fauna of the region.
Of how the seeds were to be picked up especially of looking at the pods so that we get the seeds in bulk with minimum effort.
The technique of sowing the seeds so that their survival and growth rate was better.
Narration of how the area turned green from a barren land by constructing ponds and seeds/saplings in the Nature Centre because of the volunteering efforts done by nature loving members from all walks of life
With the onset of monsoon now, the collected seeds are being used for sowing these in the periphery of Yeoor and for various Tree plantation projects undertaken by Haryali.

It was a very enriching experience for the 40 participants.
The participants went only with the expectations of seed collection drive. However, it also turned out to be a useful knowledge session on nature
The Hariyali representatives while imparting the knowledge took the participants on the nature walk. This was a pleasant experience as the participants did not feel the strain of the 2 hour event on a hot summer day.  It was a very enriching experience for the 40 participants.

While walking on one of the paths, the Nature Centre group came across Leopard excreta.  Shri Punam Sangavi was able to tell which animal the Leopard had eaten before it made its bowel.
At the end of it participants get the satisfaction of contributing towards the Global need  of improving the environment conditions.

YLTP Camp April 2010

Hi All!
Feels nice to catch up with you after a long break! And that too on a day when our beloved Guruji (H H Sri Sri Ravi Shankar) is celebrating his 54th birthday. The New Age Dynamos are rocking like never before and take this opportunity to extend their heartfelt wishes to Him. And now here’s a quick update on what we were up to, in case you thought, we had disappeared into thin air.

Well ,our lives were chock-a-block with events. We were doing seva on a war footing, meeting people in the slum areas, giving them a helping hand, organising camps and workshops and finally managing to yield some amazing results! Yes, guys, we have finally broken the ice with many of the marginalised people in the interiors of Thane city. With a close-knit team of 20 spirited volunteers and teachers, we conducted 6 Navchetna Shibirs, (a special spiritual workshop and better known as sound-breath and water workshop), a Medical Camp and a very unique residential course for youths called as YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM (YLTP). After doing the workshops, people have found respite from problems as serious as arthritis and breathlessness. Some of them have been relieved of their chronic back pains, yet others have got rid of their stress and mental anxiety. However YLTP turned out to be a big hit with the youths! Yes, for the first time in Thane, in the Swami Vivekananda Ashram in the Yeoor hills, an 8-day intensive training program was conducted for the youths, in which 34 youths from the slum areas of Thane and Mumbai underwent a life-transforming experience. If some of them have given up on drugs and alcohol, others have got a new lease of life. One participant, who was from a Thane slum, has resolved that he will never get involved in anti-social activities again. Mind you, he was a small- time goon, but was perhaps a big criminal in the making. He has put behind his past firmly behind him to build a dignified life for himself. He now wants to associate himself with the Art of Living activities and reach out to other victims with his incredible experience. It is hard to believe that only a month ago, these youths were so noisy and unruly, resorting to drugs and alcohol, whiling away their time in gambling and anti-social activities and wandering aimlessly in search of a goal. Today you find them singing, meditating, doing satsangs and more. The youths have become calm, composed and have even expressed their desire to do something worthwhile for society. We are currently helping them to take the baby steps! Thanks to all the volunteers and the Ashramites who took special efforts in housing the 34 participants in the Ashram for free.
YLTP Experience Video

What next?

Inspired by the success of our first youth program, we have decided to organize the second YLTP course from May 22- May 30 at the same venue: Swami Vivekananda Ashram, Yeoor Hills. If you are interested in doing the course you may write a mail to us at snehsanjeevani@gmail.com or you may also recommend this course to youths who are seeking personal growth or are looking to make a difference in society.

Cheers,
Indrani Sarkar

Navchetna Shivir (Saibaba, Pawar Nagar, Thane)

Joy Gurudeva..

It was there in my mind for some time that I want to conduct Navchetna course for Mhada colony people from Pawar Nagar, Thane. I got very good support from Hanuman Mandir trustee Mr. Deepak Shinde that he did all required campaign for the course and nearly 30 participants turned for the course. Neelu, Talwarji, Sesisekharji, Maya and many other volunteers helped during and before the course. Participants really enjoyed the course. They liked this course so much that they wanted to do the next level of Art Of Living course. Satsang used to be so much fun that entire temple satsangi band with their Tabla, Harmonium, Tal used to play and sing from bottom of their heart! I really don't know what I gave to them, but I received enormous love from them in return.
